1. The National Food for Work Programme (NFFWP) was launched on 14th November 2004 in 150 of the most backward districts of the country with the objective of generating supplementary wage employment.

2. The programme was open to all rural poor who are prepared to do manual, unskilled labour. 
3. It is implemented as a Centrally Sponsored scheme.
4. Food garains are provided to the State free of cost.
5. Now that the NREGA is in force , the NFFWP is subsumed within this programme.
