Status/Achievement :- Confirmed the existence of the interplanetary magnetic field. Now in a solar orbit.

Status/Achievement :- The first data on the Sun's atmosphere and recorded passage of Comet Kojoutek's tail. Still transmitting from solar orbit.
3. Mission :-  Pioneer 7
Date and Year :- 17 August 1966

Mission Type :- Solar Probe
Status/Achievement :- Recorded Earth's magnetic tail more than 19 million km from the planet, 3 times further than previously recorded.
4. Mission :- Pioneer 8

Status/Achievement :- Studied Earth's magnetic tail in detail. Still trasmitting from solar orbit.

Status/Achievement :- Gathered valuable data on the properties of the solar wind, cosmic rays and interplanetary magnetic fields.

Status/Achievement :- Abandoned in February 1974 and re-entered the Earth's atmosphere in 1979.
