Finance dept to crack whip against PSC again

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has once again initiated the process to check the financial dealings of the Public Service Commission (PSC). As part of the move, the finance secretary has sent a letter to the PSC asking it to arrange all the facilities for the inspection wing of the Finance Department to check the documents concerned.
Earlier, the law secretary had given an advice to the Finance Department that the latter has the power to check if the PSC has been spending the amount released to it properly.
On an earlier occasion, the PSC had not allowed the Finance Department to check its records. The PSC chairman's stance was that the Finance Department has no power to conduct such inspections. However, the government and Finance Minister K.M. Mani stood firm that the Finance Department's inspection wing had the power to check how each paise released from the state exchequer is being utilised.
The Finance Department has decided to go ahead with the action now as authorities feel that the PSC is not complying with financial discipline despite its objections.
