A full-board meeting of the commission here said it would be improper to extend the validity of rank lists by 1.5 at one go. Though the validity of rank lists remain three years, the commission, based on requests from the government, usually extends it beyond three years. Thus, at many times, the validity of many rank lists gets extended up to 4.5 years.

The commission, which rejected the government proposal for the blanket extension of rank lists, however, agreed to give three months extension to all rank lists nearing the threeyear- period. The government recommendation, if approved, would hamper the smooth conduct of examinations and affect the recruitment system, the PSC said.
